Costume Museum

Via Mazzini 2

The costume museum is an ethno-anthropological heritage of the entire Iglesias community collected over the years through the work of master Stefano Priola. The ancient city of Iglesias is known for its long history related to costumes, which developed from the 14th century following the Aragonese conquest. Over the centuries, the customs and traditions of the ruling kingdoms met the traditions of the Sardinian one, giving rise to what today constitute the intangible heritage of the city. Following the industrial revolution, a critical phase began with the consequent disuse of the costume for labor reasons, especially in the case of men, and because of new influences. To date, there is great research work carried out to safeguard and restore traditional clothes to their former glory , transmitting values and history of the city to new generations.
