The work, created by Giuseppe Sartorio, had been commissioned to him by an organising Committee in which Roberto Cattaneo served as chairman; the construction cost 7000 liras. The monument, consisting in a Carrara marble bust representing Quintino Sella, is surrounded at the base by a large oak crown in bronze and rests on a rocky stone sculpture by Serrenti. On the left, we have a miner, naked up to the waist, armed with hammer and chisel, and caught in the act of engraving the last letter of the name Quintino Sella. In 1871, thanks to Quintino Sella and the ‘impresario Giorgio Asproni, the Mining Technical Institute was built in Iglesias, which was named after Asproni and which, to this day, continues to be one of the most attended schools in the city and Quintino Sella, is surrounded at the base by a large bronze oak wreath and stands on a rock sculpture made of stone from Serrenti. On the left is a miner, naked to the waist, armed with a hammer and chisel in the act of carving the last letter of the name Quintino Sella.
